While painting “Underwater” I actually listened to music the entire time. I don’t always do that when painting. Sometimes I need complete and utter silence. But this time the music actually cocooned me, letting me fully immerse myself in the process.
Sometimes you just need a moment to be present and commit to the now. When I went to the aquarium recently I had a moment like that, and I did envy the fish behind the glass just a little bit. But watching the schools of fish one after another gave me peace, allowing me to focus just on them instead of the hundreds of people around me.
Anyone who can’t easily just jump into the ocean or a pool, and who doesn’t want to put their headphones on a volume that kinda kills their ears. Be ready to submerse yourself in its layers and hit pause on the world for a second.
